    • Support & advice for employees whose job has been affected by the Covid-19 crisis.

      If you’re an Islington resident and your job has been affected by the Covid-19 crisis then Shaw Trust’s Get Back on Track service can offer you advice/support on issues including furlough, annual leave, redundancy, changes to terms and conditions (pay, hours, etc), managing mental health, working from home. 

    • The DWP have launched two new online support sites – one for employers and one for job-seekers.
      The jobseekers site lists vacancies available now as well as guidance on effective jobsearch and some advice on redundancy.

    • Islington Council have launched islingtonworking.co.uk - a place where Islington residents can look and apply for local jobs.

      On the website, local employees can upload their vacancies and residents can record their job preferences and sign-up for email alerts.

  • Session 1 - The Right Job For YOU

    Welcome to Employment Support.  We recognise that finding employment can sometimes be frustrating and we want to equip you with the skills and support you need to find the job that's right for you.  As you work your way through these sessions, choose the ones which are most appropriate for you.  You can save your work online and get feedback, encouragement and support from your tutor.  Workshops are held online throughout the term on a range of topics including 'Searching and Applying for Jobs' 'Writing and Tailoring Your CV' and 'Interview Preparation and Practice'.  Look out for email updates for workshop dates.

    In Session 1 you will find a link to the National Career Service's skills assessment.  This is a short multi-choice questionnaire to help you to identify your strengths and skills.  Even if you have been working for sometime, it may be that you would like to change jobs and/or would like to re evaluate your skills.  Once you've completed this you will be given suggestions for the kind or jobs or sectors you would be most suited to.  You can can explore these options if you wish to.

    Don't forget, the right job is out there for you!



    • Assess your skills to find suitable jobs to match your experience.

    • Fill in the table using lists of Employability Skills to create your Skills Audit.  You can upload the table to get feedback from your tutor.

    • This link will take you to Prospects - this website offers  lots of advice on how to apply to university, as well as careers advice and  job and work experience opportunities for graduates.

    • Use this website to find jobs listed on Find A Job, the JCP's most used website.

    • Click on this link for jobs in local government or what as sometimes known as the  public sector.  The public sector essentially provides all public services in the UK. They're responsible for emergency services and healthcare, education, housing, refuse collection, and social care. These organisations focus on serving the population  by delivering free or subsidised services to the public.  Jobs in local government are funded from the public purse, which comes from taxes. 

    • Follow this link to find jobs working in the voluntary sector.  The voluntary sector is independent from local and national government, and distinct from the private sector. It's aim is to create social impact and is sometimes referred as the Third Sector or the Not for Profit Sector.  Charities are the largest single category within the voluntary sector.  The voluntary sector is not to be confused with voluntary work, although you may find voluntary work within it.

    • Click on this link to go to the Reed website.  Reed are a recruitment agency and the jobs they advertise may be from the Private, Public or Voluntary Sector.  Private sector firms are set up by individuals, entrepreneurs who seek to make profit from their business activities.  They are financed by individuals and by the profits they generate .

    We live in a rapidly changing world and it's important that we learn to be flexible and adapt to the needs of the job market.  It may mean that we need to learn new skills to remain job ready.  Have a look at the links below to see how you can upskill and improve your chances of getting a job.
