Welcome to your Friday morning Level 1 Functional Skills English course. Week by week, the course material will be uploaded. Please keep returning to the course for the updated material.
To the right of this panel you will find a link to BKSB. This is our online learning resource which you will use for your diagnostic assessment and online learning.
Below you will find some very important information contained in the Learner Handbook 21-22. Please read this as part of your induction.
You will also find the course paperwork that you will need to complete. This includes:
Learner profile - this just helps me get to know you a little better
Individual learning plan (Level 1) - this includes a self-assessment of your reading, writing and speaking skills
Health & safety, induction check list - this is a quiz to check that you know all the key information that has been given at induction

Today we practised our scanning and skimming skills. We also thought about how to predict the meaning of words. The PowerPoint and resources from the class are below.
Homework:

- Please sign up for the reading website www.readtheory.org. Complete the initial assessment and try some of the quizzes over half term

This week we looked at different texts and described their unique layout and language features. We also looked at the impact of layout features: clarity, memory, mood.
Also, if you haven't completed the Organisational and Structural Features module on BKSB please do that for homework. -
Today we discussed the purpose of text and layout features.

You came back for Week 2! I hope you feel you are getting to know your classmates and me. This week we covered some of the essential information such as term dates and the overview of the course. Those handouts are below.
